Explain this to me again....

I just read this on and I am confused, so you read it first and then we can discuss:

Researchers in New Jersey claim that 30 human babies might have been born with genes from three people: their mother, their father — and a third person, whose genes were added in the laboratory.
The researchers call their experiment "the first case of human … genetic modification resulting in normal healthy children."
The team at the Institute for Reproductive Medicine and Science of St. Barnabas in West Orange, N.J. was trying to help infertile women become pregnant.
In each of the 30 cases, something in the mother's egg had prevented her from conceiving naturally. So St. Barnabas researchers extracted material from cells donated by a third woman.
This additional material from the donor's cell somehow allowed the egg to become fertile.
Their first success of having a child born with this cellular transfer technique was published in a medical journal in 1997. But an analysis of the genetic consequences of the method in two babies was only reported in March, in the journal Human Reproduction. DNA tests on two of them show they have a small number of genes that are not from their parents.
The genetic status of the other 28 babies is unknown.
The different genes come from DNA contained in mitochondria — little organs inside cells that create the energy to do life's work. They contain DNA — only about 0.03 percent of the total DNA — so they can make copies of themselves when cells divide. The other 99.97 percent of a cell's DNA comes from the nucleus and the 23 pairs of chromosomes.
A number of scientists question the ethics of the experiment. For the first time, they say, it has been confirmed that children have been born with genetic alterations.___________________________________

Ok so correct me if I'm wrong, this country is completely (ok mostly) against stem cell research but we can mess around with embryos, cells, and chromosomes to make a "super baby" with 3 or more strains of DNA? How is that legal? How is that OK?  Where are they finding these crazy ass people who are actually donating their eggs and sperm to make experimental babies?  This seriously is freaking me out, I don't understand this country, I really don't.

I am completely for stem cell research  because I have heard of the things it can do.  Here is my little 2 cents, say someone gets an abortion, why not have them sign a release to allow the stem cells to be used for research?  Why not make something good out of a sad situation?   I don't see how that is so bad, and honestly I don't really see how it is any different then these people making 3 tiered babies.  In fact I actually think making the Tri DNA baby is worse.  Also how do we know if this is even safe or if these babies will be able to live normal lives?  There are some things you don't mess with and I think this is surely one of them

Karen Huff Klein--Elderly Bullying Victim

Ok so by now most of us have seen or at least heard of this horrible video.  A bunch of punk 7th graders completely degrading Karen Huff Klein, the bus monitor, on the last day of school, videotaping it, and posting it on youtube.  The video is so hard to get through and in my case was enough to make me cry.  While on their tirade they call her a "fat ass" multiple times, make fun of her sweating, and even going as far as saying all of her family must have committed suicide because they were related to her (in reality she really did loose a son who committed suicide and is a widow) all the while she mostly sits there in silence and takes the abuse, never really raising her voice.  How in the world could anyone act like this?  If I had been one of those kids my mom would have beat me (rightfully so), then took me to that woman's house and made me apologize to her face, as well as be her personal butler/maid/cook you name it for the whole summer.

The video also bring a new thought to life.  What are the parents of these kids like?  Are they mean spirited people who rubbed off the wrong way on their children, or are they nice respectable citizens whose kids are perfect angels at home?  Is there any way to avoid your children ending up like that?  It is so scary to think that you do everything in your power to raise your kids the right way, and then behind your back this is how they are.  IF the parents are respectable good hearted people, then my heart goes out to them.  I can only imagine the embarrassment and disappointment they must be feeling.  I know if it were me I would be absolutely mortified.

There is another subject lying deep in this video too Bullying.  Bullying has been going on since anyone can remember, and it has gotten increasingly worse over the past 10 years thanks to the internet, youtube, and every other kind of social media.  It is now to the point where kids are committing suicide because they can't take it.  The media has done a good job to get the message out there and raise awareness, but I think they focus too much on certain groups than the entire subject.  For a while it was only about gay people being bullied, I heard about it every single day.  I understand that they are a huge target and it is unfortunate, but the bottom line is that bullying is an equal opportunity offender, just as this video proves, and that is what the focus should be.  Bullying affects everyone and it is horrible.  I wasn't very popular in school, but I can't honestly say I was ever bullied, so maybe I don't understand the subject to it's fullest extent, but I don't think you have to go through it to understand how hurtful and dangerous it is.  So maybe there is a silver lining to this video being posted, to show people that it happens to everyone everyday regardless of age, weight, sexuality, gender, etc.

Since this story came out an online fundraiser has started, initially the goal was $5000 to send her on an amazing vacation, but now that number is nearly an astonishing $300,000!  If you would like to donate to her this is the link:

I hope that I succeed as a parent and I am able to ensure my children never treat anyone like this.  I know kids do things that we can't control sometimes, but I hope this is never one of those things that my kids do.

Check out these winners

Everyday I am constantly amazed at the way people are.  Mostly how incredibly irresponsible and stupid people are, especially when it comes to children.  Of course (unfortunately) there is a new story everyday about some dumbass who procreated and couldnt handle it.  These are a few of the most recent ones to make headlines.

Our first "winner" is Keith Antonine Furlow who put VODKA in his 4-month-old baby's bottle.  Oh but wait this is what his lawyer had to say "Everything isn't always as it seems," Mull said Friday in defense of her court-appointed client. "Accidents happen." OOOHHHH YEEEAAAHHH I'm sure there is a totally rational explanation as to why a 4-month-old died from alcohol poisoning.  In fact, there are so many other explanations running through my head right now I can't even pick one.

Our other "winner" is
Catalina Clouser who left her 5-week-old baby on the ROOF OF HER CAR and proceeded to drive away.  Now how could anyone do such a dumbass thing you ask?  Oh she was just high and drunk.  However, just like Mr. Furlow I'm sure there is a perfectly good explanation as to why she forgot her baby on the roof of her car, drove away, and didn't notice until she got to her friends house.  She was distraught because her boyfriend had left the park they were at to get more beer (did I mention she is 19?) and got popped for a DUI.  Well why didn't I say that in the first place?? That makes TOTAL sense now!  In fact, the only way she got caught was by retracing her steps and running into the cops on the highway where they found the baby, still strapped in his carseat, and unharmed thank god.

Sometimes I wonder why it is possible for total idiots like these to have kids while there are wonderful perfect people who can't get pregnant for various reasons.  It doesn't seem fair, I can only imagine how those people feel when they read these stories.  I know, yes, accidents happen, but these people's actions were not accidents.  One put vodka in a baby bottle and mixed it with formula, and the other got drunk and high and forgot her baby on the roof.  That may have been an accident, but either way she intended on driving drunk and high with her baby in the car so she gets no remorse from me.  If I were a judge (a professional) I would make them get sterilized pronto.  They (like so many others) do not deserve the chance to hurt another innocent person.
I have to plug this contest for a second..there is only a few days left and I desperately want to win diapers for a year..oh yeah and a TRIP TO THE BAHAMAS!! PLEASE!

Allow me to re-introduce myself...and my blog

Hello all!  It's been a long time but have no fear, I am here.

I recently went back and was reading through my blog and it was pretty...well...depressing and a little boring.  I swear I am a much more interesting person, so I decided to give it a little facelift.  From now on I will be incorporating a little of my personal life but a lot of it will just be me saying what I want.  I will comment on stories that interest me, bug me, or..yes..make me lol.

I will update a little on me since it has been so long.  I am now a 26 year old wife and mother of THREE.  Yes I am done having kids.  The past two and a half years have been hectic, stressful, and trying but I have managed to come through it (with help from friends and family) and I am grateful for that.  I am trying to be more of an optimist but that takes time.  I am tempted to call this "the bitch blog" because I am one, and I do it a lot, but I also LOL a lot so I am going to stick with it :)
